Part of Presence & Time

We have only ever lived in a single moment.

We have only ever lived in a single moment.

The power of now is not a slogan about ignoring time; it names the plain fact that the present moment is the only place anything has ever actually happened. The past and the future exist only as thought, replayed or rehearsed inside this single instant, while every real action lands here. Eckhart Tolle, in The Power of Now, pointed at what contemplatives have long sensed: we have never once stepped outside the present. This does not mean we stop planning or reflecting. It means we do those things by intentional choice, because tomorrow genuinely matters to us, rather than by anxious compulsion that drags us out of the only moment we have. When we choose presence instead of being pulled from it, even remembering and preparing become acts of presence. What might shift if we met this moment as the single one we have ever lived in?
