You won't, because just as in Maya, we've chosen to play this serious, often hurtful, game on purpose.

The most serious games are the ones we agreed to take seriously. Look closely at any rule we defend to the death and you find chalk lines drawn on the ground, a grid we sketched ourselves and then forgot we were holding the chalk. The stakes feel total because we set them that way; that is the whole point of stepping onto the board. We did not stumble into the difficulty of being human, we chose a game worth losing ourselves inside, knowing the loss was always part of the play. None of this makes the hurt less real, only less final. What would change if we remembered, mid-move, that we are the ones who drew the squares?
