Each label both defines the person, and also cuts them off from some part of the human condition.

The labels we wear to name the self are the same ones that quietly fence it in, which is the paradox at the heart of nonduality and every honest look at identity. Each tag we accept tells us who we are by deciding who we are not. We become legible to the world and, in the same stroke, smaller than the whole we came from. Pull the string and the boundary loosens, and what looked like a fixed person turns out to be one expression of a single, undivided condition. What would remain of us if we set the basket of labels down for a moment?
