Without an "other," there'd be no sense of self.
Nonduality keeps pointing at a strange fact: the self is not a thing but a relationship, an edge that only appears where something else pushes back. A wave's crest is only a crest because of the trough beneath it; light only reads as light against shadow. We tend to defend the boundary as if it were a wall, when really it is more like a shoreline — the place where two things turn out to be one motion. The "other" we brace against is what lets us feel like a someone at all. Strip every contrast away and the separate self has nothing left to be separate from. So what would remain of you if there were truly nothing else to stand apart from?
