Rather than viewing your skin as a wall dividing you from the outside world, picture it as a conduit that allows you to engage with it.

The idea that the self is an illusion of separateness starts at the surface of the body — the skin we mistake for a wall. But nothing about it is sealed. Air moves through it, food becomes it, light passes into it, and heat leaves it constantly; every second, the world we think we are standing against is already flowing through us. A membrane is not a barricade but a conduit, the place where inside and outside trade back and forth without pause. Oneness is not a mystical claim we have to reach for — it is the plain fact of an organism that has never once been closed. What would change if we felt the edge of the body as an opening rather than a border?
